Change Your Perspective, Change Your Life
I decided to change my life and to change perspective. The last 7 years of my life has been devoted to coaching people using personal training, massage therapy, mental coaching, inspirational speeches, educational workshops and working with corporate health strategies. My working title is Holistic Lifestyle Coach as I have found this to be most accurate for the mixture of tools that use in my professional lifestyle. I spend most of my downtime with ongoing educations in order to learn more about how I could help companies and individuals to reach their goals and to improve their health.
Yesterday marked the one year anniversary from where I embarked on a journey from Sweden to Thailand. It was a journey without a marked return, one where I sold off almost everything I owned and packed the remaining items into my two travel suitcases as I boarded the plane.
How to Change Your Perspective In Life and Move Forward
The goal was to start up a Holistic Lifestyle Center in the jungles outside of Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand. Which after many circumstances is what we did but not in the intended original location. As the circumstances changed we adapted and decided to start up our new business in the central parts of Chiang Mai instead.
Starting up a new business in a culture without knowing the local language has proved to give me many new perspectives, chances to grow on personal and on a professional level. I had to accept that the western way of doing business is not necessarily the standard in this area of the world. Scheduling, time management, the constant push towards success, as we are used to in the west, is not what has lead us forward in this format building a business here in Thailand.
So what did lead me and my partner forward? To change your perspective? What have we learned during our first year here in Chiang Mai regarding this topic?
Accepting a change in perspectives & “Going with the flow”. Meaning not always pushing towards what we perceive is the right way forward. Instead we rather go where the energy flows. Having the patience to let things unfold the way the are supposed to, yet not being engaging in procrastinating or indulging in unproductive behaviors. We live much like the saying”Knowing when to reap, and when to sow” like the wise farmers saying.
I am a modern western man with heritage both from Dominican Republic and Sweden. I was raised with the cultures and spiritual views of two different worlds. Added to that my father is an advanced master in the asian martial arts of Kyokushin Karate, Qi-gong and he is personally very deeply rooted in philosophical ways of Taoism.
This means that I grew up with three major different perspectives of life, which has propelled my life forward and that has allowed me to change my ways of being rather quickly in order to adapt as the landscape of life changes. In my personal and professional life I bridge:
- Eastern energetically principles. Eastern philosophy, kinesiology, Traditional Chinese Medicine, buddhistic mindfulness and herbal supplements.
- Western science. Psychology, behaviour science, sport medicine, personal training, corrective exercises, science based assessments methods.
- Southern America Shamanic ways of life with a lot of responsibility and choosing to live from your “heart-space”. By doing good deeds, words, and having positive nonjudgemental thoughts towards yourself and others. This is my main tools. This mixture of different areas is what creates my general life direction or purpose and that I share with my clients.
What do I mean by general life direction or life purpose? The general life direction is not a universal language in that sense that it means so many things in different cultures. This is greatly affected by religious or spiritual belief, as well as the culture and traditions of the area. How we are brought up and the social constellation we been exposed to has shaped us through life and is many times the foundation of our belief systems. Here is my take on the three different worlds I grew up in.
In the west the general life direction is called GOALS. The focus is to reach a fixed point in the future where there is a certain reward or achievement worth the effort, we usually divide this into part goals in order to see a linear progression as we strive towards our final destination. Mindset and attitude is core values for any kind of effort in this philosophy.
In the east the general life is called INTENTIONS. Here the philosophy is directed towards energy flow, wherever things does not flow or do not have a natural progress a alternate direction is usually selected. Cultivating your energy flow by raising your Chi/life force, adhering to a “high vibration” having a good karma by respecting and treating other people good is essential core values in this way of life.
In the southern America spiritual world they adhere to the saying “The world is a feeling”. Meaning that whatever you feel is the way things are, our inner feeling is what creates our environment and the outside world is a reflection of this perception. Removing things that makes you feel bad and that not align with your intuition is a core value in this way of life. Having a high vibration means that we choose to address any aspect of thoughts, emotions, words, actions with the emphasizes of staying positive and in our heart center. This is crucial in order to create more energy in order to have a healthier lifestyle where you can be of service to others.
I thought that was already living life this way as I set off for Thailand, but I have really learned how to fully make this a choice of perceiving and navigating through life this past year. By choosing to live my lifestyle 100% and taking full responsibilities for everything in my own life I have found a lot of peace and joy. I am not saying that it is a easy journey and that I am flawless in any way, rather addressing the aspect that I am now aware of what my journey ahead means and which compasses that I choose to navigate with. This is my personal and professional pillars in life, they are also the base in my professional holistic lifestyle coaching coaching. What the future holds ahead is not certain, I chose to follow the threads of life flow using my intuition, and follow it wherever it may lead me.
“Change your perspective, change your life” I will share more tools and in-depth tips regarding lifestyle coaching and self.development in future posts.
